The Native Hawaiian Traditional Healing Center

The Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center was established by our Kupuna, our “Elders” and this area was selected for the Healing Center because of Mauna Maili`ili`i, which is the mountain in back of us that represents “Ku” energy and also the “Papa,” which is Maili Beach Park.  So, where you have the “Papa” coming together with the mountain, you have “healing energy” at that intersecting point and that’s exactly where the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center is located.  So we call upon that connection of energy to bring about a holistic healing – balanced energies to bring the body about to a healing process.

The Native Hawaiian Traditional Healing Center promotes traditional Native Hawaiian healing and cultural education, practices and traditions. The primary practices of the Native Hawaiian Traditional Health Center includes Lomilomi (Hawaiian massage therapy), Laau Lapaau (herbal medicine), Laau Kahea (spiritual healing), and Hooponopono (conflict resolution).

A Council of Native Hawaiian elders – Kupuna, who are master practitioners, is responsible for preserving and upholding cultural Hawaiian ways of practice. The Kupuna Council:
Oversees the focus and mission the Native Hawaiian Traditional Healing Center.
Provides guidance on all policy recommendations for the implementation and changes both by the Health Center and the Native Hawaiian Traditional Healing Center.
Provides expertise and guidance on traditional Hawaiian healing practices and protocols.
Provides guidance, support and approves all curriculum developed for training in traditional healing arts.
Provides guidelines and protocols for the development and implementation for certification or licensing of practitioners.
Sits as a review panel of traditional practitioners, who shall uphold the practicing privileges and standards set forth in the general provisions of the Native Hawaiian Traditional Healing Center.
Provides guidance and direction on ways to promote and support the Native Hawaiian Traditional Healing Center at the community, state and federal levels.
